Holiday Style - What to Wear to Work Events

It's that time of the year when we all are searching in our closets or the stores to find the right holiday ourfit for each occasion. Especially when going to a work related event, finding the right balance between festive and work appropriate can be a little tricky at times. Do I wear sequins? Do I wear a mini dress? Do I have to wear a suit?

While I love a good holiday party, sometimes I dread trying to find things that are festive, fun and also work appropriate. So, as a Human Resources executive, I've rounded up my list of ideas on what to wear and what NOT to wear to your next work holiday party.

First, let's begin with what NOT to wear. I'll keep it simple - just think, NO BS! 😳

If the description of the dress says

  • B: Bodycon, bandeau, or backless

  • S: Strapless, spaghetti strap, slinky or sexy

Then just say NO sis...throw the whole dress away!!! Not really throw it away but.... you know what I mean.

Your corporate or work function is not the time to grab the most revealing holiday dresses in your wardrobe. You want to keep the Monday morning water cooler conversation focused on the fun and not "Girl... did you see what so-and-so was wearing?"

So, here are some tips on what to wear to your next corporate holiday event

First, consider the venue of the event and the dress code. Is it formal, casual, or just festive?

If the party is formal, a good option would be to wear a cocktail dress or gown, or a fabulously tailored suit. Also consider the fabric of your clothes as this is what helps make it festive. Go for velours, satins and knits.

If it's more of a casual vibe, opt for a 50/50 look. 50% festive and 50% business casual.

So, a festive blouse or sweater with a pair of trousers or pencil skirt. Or, opt for a simple button-down or turtleneck with a sequins or metallic skirt.

Happy Holidays!!
