I know this is the question you are probably asking yourself (amongst others)... Who is this girl? Why she startin' a blog? What does she have to say? Well, let me take a few minutes and answer all that and then some...
My name is Ayanna (you caught that part right? đ) and I am so happy that something I said or did made you look! I am a regular degular schmegular girl from Harlem, New York City. Many people who look at where I am from and where I am now, have NO idea the roads I have traveled down, the mountains I've climbed and the pits I have dug out of to get to where I am today - which is alive, happy, healthy and loved!
So let me start at the beginning... I promise I won't be too long - LOL
My mom raised me solo after giving birth to me when she was 20 years old... funny enough, both of our birthdates are on the 20th of our respective months. She did EVERYTHING she could to raise me right in spite of the fact that there was no dad around for support, she had to drop out of college to take care of me, and (apparently) I slept in a shoe box initially after being born prematurely.
My mother taught and showed me what it means to work hard and not quit... When we had no food, she found a way and when I didn't have clothes, she figured it out. She didn't graduate college but made absolute certain that I did! So, through tragedy and triumph one thing that has not changed for me is, I. WILL. NOT. QUIT.
Ok Phew. That should have answered at least part of the "who dis?" question...
I married my high school sweetheart - been married 13 years now. I have two children whom I ADORE - Cayden (8) and Chase (5). I moved out to the burbs (the city ain't cheap). and I have many jobbbssssss (said in my Phaedra Parks voice). I am a Human Resources Executive at a Fortune 500 company, the CEO of Designs by Ayanna - an event planning and design company, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a godmother, an auntie, a member of Jack and Jill of America and a board member of EGL Partners Uplifting our Daughters.
I have a thing for spreadsheets (#obsessed). I am in love with OrangeTheory Fitness. I have a BIG cheesy grin which shows up a lot because I LOVE to laugh but on the flip side, I am insecure about my teeth. l have a face that has a mind of it's own; I can't control it and often times it gets me into trouble. I am the boo-boo healer, bath giver, support-your-girlfriends poster child... but I am also an only child and after giving so much in all these areas... at the end of the day, I enjoy playing candy crush while locked in the bathroom hiding from my kids. I love to cook and my favorite shows are on HGTV and Food Network.
So, I decided to start this blog because I want to tell stories that I am sure many women can relate to. It's stories about me, as a woman living my life to the fullest and experiencing a lot bloopers and set backs along the way. I want to connect with women who are out there hustling through everyday life, looking fabulous but still fighting with their 8 year old son to get him to take a shower (ahhhhhh). If nothing else, it will be therapeutic for me đ€·đŸââïž! HA
So thanks for checking in and I can't wait for us to connect on this journey.
Signed,
Ayanna
