Protect Your Energy

Energy is your most precious human resource and therefore, it must be protected at all costs.


Has this ever happened to you... you're having a good day, you start scrolling through social media and BAM, a drive by attack on your energy with a story about someone jumping off a bridge...


Now you're hooked... Now you're sad and you're going down the rabbit hole - reading the comments, reading the article, you're stalking the deceased's social media page to see if there was an indication of sadness.. and then and then and then.... now you're sad...


And just like that, a covert attack on. your energy has just successfully completed its mission.


In todays world, we consume A LOT through social media and the challenge is, there's no way to filter these things out. While it's important to stay connected to reality, we also have to be vigilant about protecting our own energy.


Here are 5 ways to protect and reset your energy:


Check in with yourself. While I now many of us #bossbabes have a lot we are juggling; carving out time during the day to check in with yourself is uber critical. This way you can identify how you're feeling... stressed? sad? overwhelmed? exhausted? You are not a machine! Therefore, you have to cultivate awareness of your emotions.


Set Boundaries! Just like as moms we are ruthless about protecting our children, we have to also protect ourselves! Set boundaries by learning how to say:

  • This doesn't work for me

  • Maybe some other time

  • No.

Release what you can't control. Sometimes things become energy vampires because we are consumed with trying to fix something or someone... We are stressed because of some situation at work... or our kids' school... or with our jobs... The important thing is to learn to be ok with things that are outside of our control. It actually gives me so much freedom to focus on what I can control.


Find your happy place. What or who makes you happy? Where can you go that brings happy vibes? I know for me, it's the spa or a vacation! When I find myself getting into a downward spiral with my energy, checking out and checking into a spa or a hotel with a view always does the trick for me. It gives me a moment to disconnect, to do something specifically for me, and to recharge my energy. Sometimes though, my happy place is right in my bed, with a glass of wine, popcorn and a good movie! We all have to find what that place is for us and go there when our energy is on E.


Beware of your triggers. As a mom and a wife, ANYTHING to do with children or marriages, triggers me. I was scrolling IG the other day and a mom was showing some pretty vivid videos of her daughter who had congenital heart failure and was in the hospital because she was sick and had a heart attack!!! SHEESH! Now, I know me... I wanted to know what happened and if the girl was ok, but I COULD NOT look at the video. The first clip was heart-wrenching. So I literally, covered the screen, turned down the volume and read the caption... Phew, I made it through. Because if I didn't do that, I would have been so emotional about it and my energy would have taken a hit.
