Say hello to my new friend

Updated: Aug 24, 2020

I have been trying to stay focused on my fitness routine inspite of the challenges with the quarantine. Unfortunately, it has been a complete corona-coaster! Some weeks I am on it! Then there are other weeks that I am eating everything under the sun. I have even started discovering new snacks that I never ate before 😫 (we'll save that for a later post).

In the meantime, my scale greets me every morning when I wake up. I have learned to ignore it, hide it, talk to it, negotiate with it 😂, we've become VERY close. At times I think we have a mutual understanding that I only engage with the scale when I expect good news and most of the times, I am not disappointed. However, the scale and I have often had some reality check moments - LOL, that's when I have to run back to my new friend...

So, let's get to it. While I was moaning and groaning about not being able to work out, the hubs made a brilliant suggestion. Now, keep in mind, I like working out in group settings and have been known to hop onto fitness trends like SoulCycle and OrangeTheoryFitness. So, I needed something that could recreate this experience in an at-home environment.

Meet, my new friend and latest obsession - Peloton! Yep, I said it. I tried to avoid it for so long because I didn't really understand nor appreciate the value. I have come to realize, I underestimated the Peloton. So here's why I love it...

It's convenient - I placed it in a location where I have to see it every day. To force me to ride and do my exercises.

It's quick - Think about it, when you go work out at a studio you have the commute time, the check in time, etc. With this, it's right there and I can just hop on whenever I want to and I can cut out all the extra stuff!

I don't have to be cute LOL - I know, this is SO vain but I'm saying though... When you go to the gym, you have to get the outfit that matches, gotta have on the right tights, t-shirt, sports bra and sneakers... You gotta pull your hair back so you don't look crazy, etc... Don't lie, tell the truth! You've thought about this too when you go to the gym!! 👀. At least with the peloton in my house I can go jump on without having brushed my teeth, combed my hair and I can wear whatever the heck I want! Ha!

It's interactive - Believe it or not, the classes are actually interactive. When I zone out, I do feel like I am in a class setting. The leaderboard and the instructors do a great job creating the right engaging and encouraging atmosphere that strikes the right balance between motivating you and challenging you to push harder.

I get to choose - I love having options! There are several ways that you get to choose things in the Peloton system. So, 1) I can choose classes based on music by a particular artist - which I love! I recently did a search for every class that had a Lizzo song and then I favorited all of those so I can do them later. Also, 2) you can do things other than ride the bike (which is what I have). The Peloton app has yoga, meditations (which I will sometimes do with the kids), floor routines, and more. There are so many things to choose from.

So I say all that to say this... At this point, I am at the same weight I was when quarantine started... that's because of my relationship with my scale and our reality check moments as well as the strategic placement of my Peloton 😂. I am a work in progress but I am enjoying the journey.

What are you doing to fight the quarantine-15?

XO
