My Self-care Chic Picnic

Updated: Sep 1, 2020

Years ago, hubs and I bought a picnic basket and vowed that we would do a picnic date together. Well, I was the one really pushing the picnic date and hubs wasn't totally bought into sitting in the grass and fighting with bugs... he knows I hate bugs, LOL. So, I went out and bought a cute blanket and a picnic basket with all the fixings. It is insulated, comes with plates, cups and utensils and is just overall the perfect little picnic basket. But.... ummmm yea, that picnic date never happened.

So this past week, I dusted off my perfectly "new" picnic basket and planned a little self-care date to get out, read a little, eat a little, drink a little 😜 and just enjoy the good weather. And let me tell you, I am SO happy I did. I had a great time!

So let's talk about how I pulled his off. I started by scoping out a spot at my local park. I planned to go at a time later in the day so that the sun wouldn't be blazing on my back all day. I also picked a spot that was shaded so that I could sit out as long as possible and enjoy the nature and the weather.

Before setting out, I ran to the grocery store with a short checklist of some must-haves for my chic picnic:

  • Flowers (of course)

  • Fruits - I grabbed grapes and berries

  • Food - a variety of cheeses, salami and crackers - another reason not to sit in the hot sun... you don't want your cheese to spoil

  • I also grabbed some water (I prefer sparkling water), a bottle of wine, and some ice

Then, I grabbed a few items from home so that I could have everything set up nicely. Here's my list:

  • A platter or cheese board

  • A tray or placemat for your drinks

  • A plastic bag for your trash

  • Hand sanitizer

  • Napkins and utensils if it doesn't come with your picnic basket

  • Glasses

  • AND bug repellent!!! LOL. Trust me, I had plenty of this on hand

Once I prepared all of these items, I loaded the fruits and cheeses into my insulated picnic basket and covered them with some ice to keep it cool. Then I set out, with my blanket and basket, to have the most relaxing self-care date I could plan.

While spending some time alone in the park I had the chance to really decompress from everything that was going on. Just taking the mental break from all of my responsibilities and to-do lists gave me such an energy boost. I left my time alone feeling very refreshed.

All in all, it was extremely fun and relaxing. I may make this part of my regular self care routine!

Care to join me?

XO,

Ayanna
