What to Wear to a Winery: Fall Style Guide

Updated: Jan 7, 2023

Wine, Fall foliage, good friends and good food are the ingredients of a perfect Fall day. However, the vibe can be totally ruined if you don't pick the right outfit.

So, let's talk about how to dress winery-chic so that you can focus on the wines and not fuss with your outfit.

The most important thing I want you to think about when planning your look is, winery-chic can be achieved by dressing up your every day look. Take your favorite jeans, throw on a blazer, some accessories and most importantly, comfy shoes!

Keep these ten style tips handy when you’re planning your next visit to a winery.

First things first, check the weather to determine what the temperature will be when you're visiting the winery. This will help you decide on your overall look and how many layers you'd want to wear. If you're going in the morning and will be there through the afternoon, chances are it will be cool and crisp when you start the day and then warmer through the afternoon. Knowing this will help you plan accordingly.

Now that you have a good sense of the weather, pick the base of your outfit. You want to go for an elevated look so decide if you're doing a dress or skirt, or if you're going to go with a cute pair of jeans. Also determine where you can add in a print or pop of color. I love to throw in a good houndstooth print or a fall floral pattern to add some fun into my look.

What ever look you choose, you're going to want to layer it with a jean jacket, blazer or a long cardigan. This will help you to adjust as the temperature warms up or cools down during your visit.

Wear comfy shoes. I can't stress this enough! The grounds may be uneven, you could be walking in grass or on cobblestone so it's important that you wear something comfortable. Comfortable doesn't have to mean sneakers. Instead, opt for a block heel shoe or boot, you can wear some nice Oxford shoes or loafers. Again, think elevated and chic versus super casual.

Select fuss-free accessories. There are several accessories that elevate your look; a wide-brim hat is always a good idea, sunglasses, tasteful jewelry and/or a scarf. You also want to leave your large tote at home and instead, go for a cross-body or mini-bag. There are all small details that can turn a simple outfit into a classy winery-chic look.

Let's talk effortless make up. Skip the bold lippie and strong perfume and go for a more natural glam or no-makeup-makeup look, lip gloss or chapstick and a subtle scent. The last thing you want to fuss about is constant reapplying of your red lipstick because it's coming off on your wine glass. You also don't want to have to worry about your perfume competing with the scent of your wines. So, keep it soft, subtle and simple so that you can focus on the overall experience of the wine.

Most importantly, wear what makes you feel comfy and confident and allows you to enjoy the experience!
